Vodafone's contextual queen.

Watch out Sheryl Sandberg Fay Arjomandi might just be more powerful than you! :-)

Yes, I do have an interesting life. By the way, these Iranians have quite a mafia going. Maryam Ghaemmaghami Scoble now you get why I married you. Was at Plug and Play Technology Center where Saeed Amidi had me up on stage talking about Glass today too. Great startups there, the three best are featured on its blog here: http://www.plugandplaytechcenter.com/blog/

What a day, ended up talking with Sencha's Luke Kilpatrick about the future of HTML 5 and enterprise systems.

Tomorrow? Gillmor Gang, Huffington Post, and more. I need sleep!

What a fascinating night. Causes founder Joe Green...

Published #Politics, #ABetterAmerica

What a fascinating night. Causes founder Joe Green came over and while puffing on cigars we talked with people from all over America at the The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay.

#Politics were discussed. No fights ensued. :-)

It was my first time meeting Joe. Don't know who he is? Well, he went to college with Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook. He also has helped start a few companies, including NationBuilder.

I wanted to meet Joe because he has started a political organization, FWD.us, which is aimed at improving immigration law in the United States. This stuff affects all of us in the tech community deeply.

Joe came off as quite different than I expected. Very thoughtful and reflective, particularly about his own skills.

One thing everyone around the campfire after the discussion: we all want #ABetterAmerica. Trick is in figuring out just what that means and just how to get there.

I'm all in on FWD.us. After hearing what Joe's doing I think he's doing awesome work. Too tired to talk about more politics online, but we'll come back to it someday. Immigration Law is too important for us to ignore further.

Time for us to get involved.

Looking forward to this conference in Half Moon Bay next Monday. This is the first Bloomberg West conference and, damn, did they get a lot of interesting speakers. Me? This is my backyard so I think I'll kidnap a bunch to the fire pits. Hey, Andy Grignon you gotta work from the Ritz next week!

I totally missed this video that Dave Sims made about me at Rackspace Hosting. He's so talented at making things seem bigger than life.

What really drives tech entrepreneurs? What makes them tick? What drew the great disruptors to technology? Rackspace On Startups is a video series that explores insights from tech evangelists and founders -- from Woz to Graham Weston. It's no secret that Rackspace loves startups -- we were one in 1998 -- and we remain committed to helping technological entrepreneurs.

Thread: A Google Now story

Your own personal PRISM: Who has the best mobile contextual apps?

Hey, if the government is gonna track lots of stuff that we do on the Internet, why not use that power to serve US? That's exactly what contextual apps do -- they help figure out what you need to do next.

I have a list of my favorite ten below. +shel israel and I are writing a book called the "Age of Context." I keep updating this list in my head (and on Flipboard I'm keeping a magazine titled "The Next 10 Years" where I'm tracking all of this stuff).

But I want to crowd source this too. Do you use a contextual app? Something like Google Now that helps you live your life by looking deep into the context of what you are doing?

• Google Now: this app tries to predict where you are going next, what you are doing next, who you are meeting next, the information you need to know next. Dave Winer's Google Now story shows how cool and creepy it is: http://threads2.scripting.com/2013/june/aGoogleNowStory

• Tempo AI. A better calendar than iOS 7 has. http://scobleizer.com/2013/02/13/siris-contextual-sister-tempo-blows-away-apples-iphone-calendar/ This calendar, on iPhone, looks deep into your iPhone’s email, calendar, and the web and tries to make your calendar more useful by bringing together relevant emails, addresses, names, phone numbers, and more.

• Sherpa. Personal assistant on Android. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sherpa.asistentesherpa Better than SIRI, more complete, faster, tries to predict what you will need next.

• SmartThings. Home automation. This system and mobile app will warn you if you leave a window open as you leave among a ton of other things. http://www.smartthings.com/

• MindMeld. iPad app that listens to what you say and tries to anticipate what you need as you say it. http://www.expectlabs.com/mindmeld/ Video at: https://plus.google.com/+Scobleizer/posts/fTC7Wonet1M

• IFTTT. A scripting tool for life. https://ifttt.com/ Contextual features based on location and activity are coming soon.

• Atooma. Similar to IFTTT, but wholly based on mobile. http://www.atooma.com/welcome

• Moves. This health tracker already can “sense” four contexts: whether you are driving, walking, biking, or running. Funny enough Google announced an API that does the same thing in mid-2013. http://www.moves-app.com/

• Everything.me. This app launcher, for Android, turns your smartphone into a contextual powerhouse. It introduces a concept where it asks you what you want and it dynamically changes your whole phone into bringing you apps and data that serve that need. http://corp.everything.me/

• Easily.do. A personal assistant that helps you contextually live your life and stay on top of tasks. https://www.easilydo.com/

Got any better ones? Let me know!

Robert Scoble - Google+ - A new kinds of real-time website content helper, analytics:…

Wow, a new kind of web now possible: Spinnakr's cofounder, Adam Bonnifield, shows me real time big data analytics.

It lets you see, in real time, where your web visitors are coming from and you can change your content to be different just for those visitors. Very impressive. Hey Tiffaney Fox Quintana we should use this on Rackspace.com!

Should Foursquare's Founder Help Company Morale by Using Foursquare Less?

Published

I'm using Foursquare less and less and caring whether I'm a mayor or something like that less and less every month (if I ever cared all that much before).

It's sad, because I really love Foursquare for the tips.

That said, Foursquare is actively pissing me off. I think Dennis Crowley SHOULD keep using it more and more (if your CEO isn't the most active user of your product you SHOULD worry!) But, Dennis didn't take automatic checkin seriously enough and he's now being matched by very big companies like Yelp, Google, and even Facebook. He hasn't pushed the app forward enough fast enough and THAT is what the employees should be bitching about. Not whether he is on too many vacations or such. Heck, that could be chalked up to market research IF Dennis pushed the product forward harder.

At this point, though, not sure what I'd do. If I did I'd start a company. I don't, I just am a lowly user and I've noticed my user behavior has moved to other systems. That's what the employees should worry about.

Here's Rackspace's official answer on how we handle government requests. Like I said, my stances over the weekend weren't coming from Rackspace. This shows just how deeply our execs believe in the Fourth Amendment.

I'm so fortunate that I work for Rackspace Hosting and that they let me hang my opinions out here without worrying about reprisals even when we disagree.
