A 3D low-cost product scanner (using Microsoft Kinect)

Published #scanner, #3D, #printing, #scanning, #kinect

http://manctl.com/ shows me how its low-priced 3D scanner, named "Skanect" works. What does it do? While the Kinect is moved around, it captures new views of an object or a room and automatically computes a metric 3D model, in real-time. Skanect can also detects planes, such as floors and walls, and perform automatic ground alignment.

Skanect's output can be imported into popular 3d software such as Meshlab or Blender for further examination, measurement and refining.

Kinect startup helps surgeons work without touching a computer (remains sterile)

Published #kinect, #surgeon, #surgery, #doctor, #sterile, #gestsure

If you are a surgeon you can't touch anything while operating on a patient. Why not? Because if you touch something like a keyboard or an iPad's screen you need to rescrub in. This wastes tons of money and time. Learn more at http://gestsure.com/

This was one of the companies in the Techstars Kinect program in Seattle sponsored by Microsoft.

Sorry for the bad audio, they had a really loud air conditioner in the room and I couldn't escape the noise with my microphones.
