Reliable occupancy sensing has long been the bane of the home automator. A PIR detects if someone moves, but once they sit down to watch TV they disappear. If you are trying to switch off lights automatically in unoccupied areas then you can soon run into problems. How many of us recognise the 'wave your hands in the air to make the lights come back on' scenario!

I recently gave a talk at SmashingConf in Freiberg. I wanted to share the story of our startup Lanyrd and some lessons learned along the way. Twitter files to raise $1B, company is not profitable, will trade under ticker TWTR
Twitter's IPO filing is now public, and the company says it plans to raise as much as $1 billion. According to the documents it had revenue of $253M in the first six months of 2013 and was not profitable.
