Tech Companies, Bristling, Concede to Government Surveillance Efforts
When government officials came to Silicon Valley to demand easier ways for the world's largest Internet companies to turn over user data as part of a secret surveillance program, the companies bristled. In the end, though, many cooperated at least a bit. Twitter declined to make it easier for the government.

The NSA's data collection practices have much of America - and certainly the tech community - on edge, but sources familiar with the agency's technology are saying the situation isn't as bad as it seems. Yes, the agency has a lot of data and can do some powerful analysis, but, the argument goes, there are strict limits in place around how the agency can use it and who has access.
