http://manctl.com/ shows me how its low-priced 3D scanner, named "Skanect" works. What does it do? While the Kinect is moved around, it captures new views of an object or a room and automatically computes a metric 3D model, in real-time. Skanect can also detects planes, such as floors and walls, and perform automatic ground alignment. Skanect's output can be imported into popular 3d software such as Meshlab or Blender for further examination, measurement and refining.

It's very accurate and it will be showing up in some stores soon. This company is part of the Techstars' Kinect incubator in Seattle, which I recently visited to see the latest companies coming out.
