A new way to fund a book's development: sponsors, here's ours
Shel Israel just announced that we have raised $100,000 to fund the development of our book, "Age of Context." If you haven't heard that we're working on a book, we are, it's going to focus on how companies are able to build highly anticipatory services (think of Google Now) and highly personalized services (ToyTalk, for...

Which new apps will be most used at SXSW 2013?
Answer (1 of 17): My bet is on a new app from SRI (the folks who brought Siri and the mouse to us) called http://Tempo.AI. This is a new mobile productivity app that will be out soon. I can't say more until the embargo ends but it's pretty cool and I'll be using it to manage myself at SXSW.

Plantronics shows how sensors will change every product
As I get around the world of business looking for stories about how we're headed into an age of context, where sensors, wearable computers, big data, social data, and location data will be combined to change our products and our companies I can think of no better place to start than Plantronics. Their headsets were used by the first astronauts and are often at the cutting edge of wearable devices.
Here I visit with Joe Burton, CTO and Senior Vice President of Engineering and Development, to get a look at how Plantronics is thinking about sensors and interactions and gestures.
They also just released an SDK and are doing hackathons to help keep up on the bleeding edge. More on those at http://developer.plantronics.com/people/gregrose/blog/2013/02/04/did-you-see-the-plantronics-developer-connection-prize-for-the-launch-hackathon

By the way, the really cool stuff comes toward the end of this video, so don't miss the end.

I apologize on behalf of the tech industry that overhyped the Mailbox app ( http://www.mailboxapp.com/ ). I see many of you waiting for it. It's nice, but the real productivity killer apps are coming next week, including one from the same place Siri came from. The problems with the Mailbox app?

This could be very useful when we get Google Glass, those wearable computers that will show us stuff as we walk around.
